TRÆ Inaugurated in Aarhus: See Photos of Denmark's Tallest Wooden Building

In the heart of Aarhus now stands one of the world's tallest wooden buildings, proving that sustainable construction can reach new heights.

TRÆ, a 78-meter high, 20-story award-winning beacon project built from recycled wood and upcycled materials, was inaugurated on May 5th by, among others, Finance Minister Nicolai Wammen, Aarhus Mayor Anders Winnerskjold, and PFA's CEO, Ole Krogh Petersen.

Together with Kilden & Hindby and Lendager Architects, PFA has sought to push the boundaries of what is possible in sustainable construction.

The building includes a range of innovative materials, such as discarded wind turbine blades for sun shading, scrapped Netto lamps, old window frames as flooring, as well as floors and ceilings from Gellerupparken. Additionally, plastic bottles and paper granulate are used in the ceiling, and seaweed and hemp fibers are used for insulation.

TRÆ is not just an experiment in sustainability but also a social investment. Det Kærlige Måltid rents space for free on the ground floor and prepares meals for challenged families, while Foreningen Gadeliv assists with janitorial functions in the building.

The many experiences from TRÆ will now be utilized by PFA in both new constructions and renovation projects across the country.
